Home › Hotel pickup tour review

The one Paris day trip that really collects you from your hotel, reviewed

Five listings on this site print “hotel pickup” on their page and strike it through. This is the one where the pickup and the drop-off are both included, and it is the dearest of the Paris days largely for that reason. It rates 4.9 from 37 ratings, a newer listing than the big coach days and rated accordingly.

Nine lines in, five lines out

What the page puts a check beside

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Paris
  • Transportation in air-conditioned minibus
  • Professional English-speaking guide
  • Entrance ticket to Château de Chenonceau
  • Entrance ticket to Château de Chambord
  • Guided wine tasting at a Loire Valley winery or estate
  • 3-course traditional French lunch (if included in the selected option)
  • Audio guide at selected château(s)
  • Vineyard and Loire Valley insights from your guide

What the same page crosses out

  • Personal expenses and souvenirs
  • Additional food and drinks not mentioned
  • Tips for guide/driver (optional)
  • Hotel accommodation
  • Extra activities or tastings not listed in itinerary

None of the five exclusions is a surprise: personal spending, extra food, tips, a hotel room, and activities not in the itinerary. That is unusual on this shelf. Two of the inclusions are worth reading twice, though, because both carry a condition inside them. The lunch line is “3-course traditional French lunch (if included in the selected option)”, so lunch belongs to the option rather than to the tour. And the audio guide line is “Audio guide at selected château(s)” without naming them, so ask before you book rather than after. Chenonceau’s own audioguide tier is about five euros above the standard ticket in any case.

Why the hotel pickup matters more than it sounds

A Paris day to the Loire is 214 km each way and starts early. Five listings here put those words on the page and cross them out, and one — titled “with Hotel Transfers”, in the plural — includes the pickup and crosses out the drop-off, which is a different proposition entirely at the end of a full day. If being collected is the reason you are considering a coach at all, this is the listing that does it. The day trip from Paris lays the others out beside it.

What reviewers describe

Thirty-seven ratings is a small base and ten written reviews is a smaller one, so take these as descriptions rather than as a verdict. Kim gives the shape of the day: “We visited two castles, the town of Amboise for lunch, and a winery for unlimited tastings.” Julianna was in “a small group of four total”; Joanne was one of “a group of 7 in total” and found both buildings “decorated beautifully for Christmas”. Michelle wanted “more time to explore Amboise after lunch because we had to leave as soon as it was over”, and was grateful for “the air conditioned mini van” in the heat. Several name the same guide, which on a minibus this size is not surprising.

What works

  • Hotel pickup and drop-off in Paris, both genuinely included
  • A minibus rather than a coach, and reviewers describe groups of four and seven
  • Both entrance tickets named individually
  • A guided tasting at a winery, included rather than sold on the day

Worth knowing

  • The dearest Paris day on this site
  • The three-course lunch depends on which option you select
  • The audio guide is “at selected château(s)” and does not say which
  • A newer listing: 37 ratings behind the 4.9, against 1,457 on the budget day

Insider tip

Ask which option carries the three-course lunch before you pick one. The lunch is written into the inclusion list with a condition attached, so reviewers who had it are describing a different option from reviewers who did not.

Frequently asked questions

Is hotel pickup really included on this one?

Yes — “Hotel pickup and drop-off in Paris” is the first inclusion on the page and it is not struck through. On five other listings here the same words appear and are crossed out.

Is lunch included?

It depends on the option. The inclusion reads “3-course traditional French lunch (if included in the selected option)”, so check the option before you assume.

How big is the group?

It runs on a minibus rather than a coach. Reviewers describe groups of four and of seven, though with 37 ratings behind the listing that is a description rather than a rule.

Is there an audio guide at Chenonceau?

The listing says “Audio guide at selected château(s)” without naming them. The operator’s own audioguide tier at Chenonceau is about five euros more than the standard ticket, so it is worth asking the operator which châteaux are covered.
